Roy F. Kaufman

PARTNER

For over 40 years, Roy has utilized his unique experiences in health care administration, insurance and litigation to provide strategic guidance to insure the best outcomes for his clients.

As a trial lawyer, he tried over 150 cases, where he took complex medical issues and made them understandable to juries and judges. What brings him the most joy these days is “paying it forward” by mentoring those who seek his guidance, whether they are younger attorneys, claims professionals or old colleagues. His preference these days is to represent individuals facing litigation for the first time, where he can provide the support needed to face the challenges of an adversarial process.

For almost twenty years, he served as an adjunct faculty member at St. John’s University where he taught “Legal and Ethical Issues in Health Care Administration.” He is most proud of his decades long Martindale Hubbell AV rating, which is given by his peers.

Following a 25 year career as a Trial attorney, Roy served as both the Director of Claims and then Vice President of Claims for one of the largest MPL and HPL carriers in the country, where he learned the importance of an early evaluation of a case, proper and timely reserving, and the important relationships between Underwriting, Claims and Risk Management.

Roy received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Buffalo in 1977, his Masters in Health Care Administration from The George Washington University in 1979, and while working full-time with a young family, his J.D degree from St. John’s University Law School, Evening Division in 1984. He is admitted in both New York and Massachusetts and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S Supreme Court.
